On 14 April 1945, a little more than three weeks before the end of the fighting in Europe, B149386 Guardsman John Berchmans Maguire, 27, of the Governor General's Foot Guards (21st Canadian Armoured Regiment) was the last Loyola man to die in the Second World War. He was killed between Zutphen and Apeldoorn and is buried in Plot VIII, Row F, Grave 1 of the Canadian War Cemetery at Holten, Netherlands.
