“Le petit collège de bois” to 7272 Sherbrooke St. West, A Brief History of Loyola High School, Montreal
Description
This book tells the story, in a brief fashion, of the remarkable history of Loyola High School, Montreal, and of some of the colourful individuals who have been associated with it over time. One of the pre-eminent secondary educational institutions in Canada, with roots in the early half of the nineteenth century, the school’s story is worth telling. Moving from the foundation by the Jesuits of the famed Collège Sainte-Marie in 1848 in Montreal, to the establishment of Loyola College in 1896, and from a Classical College (Collège classique) system of education to one more in keeping with the modern educational ideals of Canada, this book weaves together both individuals and events to form a fascinating history of educational ideals and achievements. It is a worthy tribute to the Jesuits in Canada on their 400th anniversary of first arriving in this country.
